  • Project Introduction

Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) is a discretionary grant program established by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (BIL). In 2024, Elmore County received an SS4A grant to develop a Safety Action Plan. This plan aims to identify roadway safety improvements through a collaborative, proactive, and data-driven process to ultimately reduce roadway-related fatalities and serious injuries on county-maintained roads.

  • Project Goals

Elmore County is COMMITTED to building a safer transportation network through a proactive and multidisciplinary collaborative approach.  Our pursuit of EXCELLENCE is fueled by a promise to continuously improve our infrastructure through the implementation of innovative and proven safety countermeasures and strategies.

  • Project Updates

We will add updates throughout the progression of this project.

In 2023, Elmore, Chambers, Autauga, and Perry Counties received an SS4A grant to prepare a Safety Action Plan. This plan aims to provide a collaborative and data-driven strategy to reduce transportation-related fatalities and serious injuries on county-maintained roadways. To learn more about this process and how to get involved, visit our dedicated Safety Action Plan site. Additional information on the SS4A grant, can be located at this link to the USDOT page.

Why do we need a safety action plan?

The safety analysis period includes all crashes occurring between 2019 through 2023. Within this analysis window there were 47 Fatal crashes, 224 suspected serious Injury Crashes, 876 Non-Incapacitating Injury Crashes, 859 Possible Injury Crashes, 7,336 Property Damage-Only crashes, and 145 unknown-severity crashes. This resulted in an average of 1,897 crashes each year.

Crash Data: 2019-2023

Crash Severity by Roadway Jurisdiction (2019-2023)

In recent years, crash trends in both rural and urban settings have been trending slightly downward — a promising direction we hope to sustain. However, these numbers also highlight opportunities for improvement, with specific areas in Elmore County requiring focused attention to achieve a significant reduction in fatal and serious injury crashes. Developing a Safety Action Plan is our pathway to making these critical improvements.
