It is hard to believe that we are just a week and a half away from a new school year in Elmore County. While students may not be thrilled that lazy days of summer will soon end, parents will be pleased to learn that Elmore County is again participating in the fifth annual sales tax holiday. The Elmore County Commission unanimously elected to participate in the 2010 Sales Tax Holiday beginning at 12:01 a.m. Friday, August 6, 2010 and ending at 12:00 midnight, Sunday, August 8, 2010.
The Sales Tax Holiday gives shoppers the opportunity to purchase certain school supplies, computers and clothing free of state and county sales tax. Several municipalities in Elmore and surrounding counties are also participating in the event. To view the list of participants, log on the Alabama Department of Revenue website at www.ador.alabama.gov/salestax/STholiday.htm.
From the website, citizens can see a list of all items included in the Sales Tax Holiday. Generally, items covered include clothing of $100 or less per article, clothing accessories, protective equipment and sports or recreational equipment. In addition laptop, desktop and tower computer systems sold as a computer package with the CPU are included in the sales tax exemption. Actual school supplies, school art supplies, school instructional material, and books are also included as non-taxable items during the holiday.
We encourage citizens to take advantage of the 2010 Sales Tax Holiday by shopping for the school year beginning at 12:01 a.m. Friday, August 6 through midnight Sunday, August 8, 2010. Happy Shopping!
