Residents can learn emergency preparedness and response techniques with free training from the Elmore County EMA/HS Office. This is an opportunity for residents 13 and older to become Community Emergency Response Team members. The 20-hour training course trains participants to help themselves, family and neighbors in emergency or disaster situations. The course covers disaster preparedness, fire safety, disaster medical operations, light search and rescue operations, CERT organization, disaster psychology and terrorism. There will be both academic study and hands-on, practical experience.
Classes will be held at the Elmore County Fire Fighters’ Training Facility, 191 Red Eagle Road in Wetumpka. Class in June begins on the June 14th and continues four consecutive days ending on June 17th from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Class in July begins on the 13th and continues Tuesday and Thursday nights through the 29th from 6:30 to 9:00 p.m. The last class in July will take place on the Saturday the 31st from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
